Ecological theories in the Human Microbiome Project?

The journal Science has a latest special issue on Human Microbiome Project, after it was introduced in a Nature special issue by Jeffrey I. Gordon's team 5 years ago.

David A. Relman's team has published their reviews in both issues on the prospect of applying ecology rules in studies of human microbiota in a sense of medical research. Please refer to the above links to read their papers for more information.

Personally I don't think many of the current ecological theories are solid enough to guide studies in other areas, but it would be delightful to knock and refine them while using them in practical works.

And within my knowledge, the neutral theory in community ecology, the game theory (mostly in ESS), the network theories and the theory of dynamical systems are all promising candidates for future uses.
